The IFA Countryside is
the country sportsman's branch of the Irish Farmers' Association
whose mission is to provide support, advice and information for
Irish sportsmen and sportswomen who use and enjoy the Irish
countryside.
At the 2013 National Country Fair the IFA Countryside will have a significant
presence and a major exhibition set right at the heart of this
two-day celebration of the Irish countryside and country sports.
The Kildare Regional Game Council will be the anchor participant
on the IFA Countryside stand, organising a number of attractions
that will educate and entertain visitors to the fair.
Founded in 1958, Kildare Regional Game and Wildlife Council is
an association for game clubs in County Kildare promoting the
effective management of wildlife and the sport of sustainable
game shooting in the county. Their affiliation to IFA
Countryside provides a competitive insurance package along with
support and sponsorship, and strengthens close links to farmer
hosts without whose support country sports simply would not
exist

Displays

The Irish Fly Fishing & Shooting Museum is based in
Co. Laois and was founded in 1986 by Walter Phelan, who comes from a
family devoted to fishing. He has restored and adapted a traditional
farmhouse to house a collection of vintage rods, reels, guns, tackle,
tools and specimens of birds and fish.
Many of Walter's exhibits will be on view at the IFA Countryside
stand at Borris House.

Mick Dunne is a registered taxidermist who has always
been a great lover of nature and country pursuits.
A selection of Mick's work, which includes Victorian style mounts
and glass cases, will be on view on the stand.
Those interested
in game cover crops will be pleased to hear that King's Seeds will be
with the IFA Countryside this year at Borris and will have on hand staff
to give advice on wild bird seeds and cover crops. There will also be a
display of the crops.

Other attractions on
the IFA Countryside stand include a display of Farming &
Biodiversity by Teagasc, the Irish Agriculture and Food
Development Authority, an exhibition of wildlife photography and
an extensive display of live game birds and waterfowl presented
by the Kildare Regional Game Council.
They will also stage a display of
habitat management and predator control techniques.
