 Equestrian Events at Ballinlough Castle

The area around Ballinlough Castle in Co. Westmeath has long had links with things equine.  It is fitting then that the Irish National Country Fair will feature a range of equine events at the two-day show in the newly established Horse & Pony Village.  In addition to the static displays by the associations involved with the game & country fair, there will be activities within the village and demonstrations in the main arena each day.  Trade stands included within the Horse & Pony Village will include a range of equine retailers, saddlers, tack & clothing, riding boots, equine feeds& a working blacksmith.

Miniature Horse & Pony Society of Ireland

Founded in 2005, the Miniature Horse & Pony Society of Ireland (MHPSI) was Society in Ireland to be established a Stud Book for Miniature Horses & Ponies

The Society also aspires to the upgrade of breeding standards through the use of licensed stallions. In addition to goal this the Society aims to achieve higher standards within traceability and documentation by utilising micro-chipping and DNA testing. The Society will be represented at the National Country Fair by Capallbeagh Miniatures from Co. Louth.  It will be an opportunity to see and touch these remarkable animals and to enjoy stable owner, Joanne Austin, driving her miniature rig.

The Ballymacad Hunt at the Show

The huntsman and members of the Ballymacad Hunt, which is based close to Ballinlough, will be present and displaying in the show's main arena.  They will also have a static display at the event on both days in the Horse & Pony Village.  Countryside Alliance Ireland will present a special award to the best turned horse and rider at the Irish National Country Fair.

 

Mounted Games

The new Horse & Pony Village at the National Country Fair with its dedicated display area, will be the venue for local hunts from the Irish Midlands as their teams of compete in the Mounted Games events. The overall Top Team  awards are sponsored by Countryside Alliance Ireland.  Six local teams will compete with the final round being staged in the National Country Fair's Main Arena on Sunday 1 August in front of the large crowds that are expected at the two-day game & country fair.
