Air Show

The fantastic Yakovlevs, Europe's top formation aerobatic team will delight young and old alike as they perform their 20 minute routine in the sky above Ballinlough Castle each afternoon at the National Country Fair

The only Irish event where this crack team of pilots will perform, this display is world class and worthy of Ireland's top country fair.

Birds of Prey

From Braco Castle in Perthshire the Phoenix Falconry team will fly a range of birds of prey from home and abroad.  See the mighty golden eagle, the diminutive kestrel and the spectacle of falcons soaring from the heights into the main show ring.  This family orientated show is educational, amusing, and spectacular. 

The team will also man the Falconry Mews at Ballinlough Castle on both fair days and will have on display over twenty different birds of prey. It is here that the public can really get up close and handle these magnificent birds of prey


Clann An Drumma

Back by popular demand is Clann An Drumma (Children of the Drum) the show-stopping Celtic Band from Scotland.

This five piece band will entertain visitors to Ballinlough Castle throughout the weekend with their unique style of piping and drumming.


Gundog Handling Demonstrations

Some of Ireland's top retriever and spaniel handlers will demonstrate the techniques used by the professionals in training gundogs.  Using a number of dogs ranging from puppies to fully trained gundogs, the team members will take the spectator through the various stages of gundog training including basic obedience, hunting , jumping and retrieving.  Assisted by well know Irish commentators this team sets the yardstick for all that follows.

 


 

Local Hunts

No country fair would be complete without a visit from the local hunts and at the National Country Fair the Ballymacad Hunt and the Westmeath Beagles will parade in the main arena each day.    Once again expert commentary from local hunt supporters will bring these demonstrations to live for the visitors. Both clubs will have stands at the two-day event where the public can meet the hunt members and their hounds

 
Fly Casting Demonstrations

Irish angling supremo, Peter O'Reilly and other members of the Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors of Ireland will demonstrate each morning in the main arena and then man a free casting school for the remainder of the day. Tuition is free of charge and the younger generation will be particularly welcome at this exhibit where they will receive hands-of advice from some of the best game anglers in Ireland.





  Cossack Horsemanship

This highly entertaining display of Cossack Horsemanship will be brought to you by Sergiy Khimich from the Zaporozhian Cossack Show. Sergiy is from the Ukraine but now living in Ireland and since 1995 has been demonstrating his horsemanship skills at shows here, in the UK and down under in Australia and New Zealand number of stunts on horse back on gallop.  He will be riding “Nelson over the weekend and his show is certain to be breathtaking and entertaining. The Zaporozhian Cossacks were renowned as brave warriors and excellent riders who used stunt riding in battles as they protected Ukraine from different aggressors since the 15th century.  Sergiy's show will demonstrate many of these horsemanship skills.
